Best Booth Types for This Venue
For any event in the Crown Room, position the booth so the wood-domed ceiling is partially visible in the frame — guests have no idea how special that ceiling is until they see it in a photo. It was designed in 1888, L. Frank Baum (who wrote The Wizard of Oz) designed the crown chandeliers, and it stretches 160 feet without a single pillar. That context makes people want to share every photo immediately. For outdoor events, the red Victorian towers behind guests is an image that's uniquely Hotel del Coronado — and uniquely San Diego.

Everything we know about Hotel del Coronado
There is no venue in San Diego quite like Hotel del Coronado. Built in 1888, the Victorian landmark sits on 28 oceanfront acres in Coronado, and after 25 events here since 2012, it still gives us the same feeling every time we pull in — this place is something else.
The property recently completed a $550 million transformation that touched every corner of the resort while preserving its historic character. The Crown Room — the venue’s most iconic space — was meticulously restored in 2024, including the refurbishment of the original wood-domed Oregon sugar pine ceiling that spans 160 feet without a single pillar, and the historic crown chandeliers designed by L. Frank Baum, author of The Wizard of Oz. The ceiling reaches 33 feet at its apex. It’s one of the most photographically stunning rooms in California.
The new Southpointe Ballroom adds 15,130 square feet of modern event space with vaulted ceilings and dramatic globe chandeliers. The Ocean Ballroom sits beneath the iconic red turret. Windsor Lawn overlooks Coronado Beach. There’s a private white sand beach for oceanfront ceremonies. In total, The Del offers 96,000 square feet of event space — more variety than almost any other venue in San Diego.
For photo booth placement, our instinct at The Del is always to let the architecture work for you. In the Crown Room, position the booth so the dome is at least partially visible in the frame — guests see that ceiling in a photo and immediately want to know where it was taken. For outdoor events, the red Victorian towers are an unmistakable backdrop that makes every photo feel like a postcard.
The event coordinator team at The Del is professional, experienced, and used to working with outside vendors. They’ll have your service entrance, load-in route, and timing clearly laid out. For a resort of this scale, it runs remarkably smoothly.
