Best Booth Types for This Venue
This venue is one block from the ocean — a literal one-block walk. During cocktail hour, suggest to the couple or event planner that guests take a group stroll to the oceanfront for a few minutes. When everyone comes back, they're in an amazing mood and the photo booth gets absolutely mobbed for the next hour. Also: the North terrace's ocean view is the single best naturally-lit spot in the venue. Set up there during cocktail hour if the event allows it.
Our Full Guide
Everything we know about La Jolla Woman's Club
La Jolla Woman’s Club is one of those San Diego venues that surprises you the first time — and then you understand why it books up so fast. Designed in 1914 by renowned architect Irving Gill and nestled one block from the Pacific Ocean in the heart of La Jolla Village, it has the kind of authentic beauty that newer venues spend millions trying to recreate.
The main ballroom features hardwood floors, ornate molding, and beautiful high ceilings — all original. Stained glass windows in the two adjacent parlors overlook the private gardens and catch the ocean light in a way that’s hard to describe but immediately obvious when you’re standing in the space. The venue is surrounded on three sides by gardens, giving guests multiple outdoor areas to explore between courses.
The North arbor-covered terrace is the venue’s standout feature from a photo standpoint. It faces the ocean directly, and on a clear San Diego evening, guests standing there are looking out at the Pacific with nothing between them and the horizon. That terrace during cocktail hour is one of the most naturally beautiful event settings in La Jolla.
After 6 events here since 2018, our consistent recommendation is simple: get outside. The gardens, the terrace, the one-block walk to the ocean — encourage guests to use all of it. The ballroom is beautiful and the booth works excellently positioned near the built-in stage, but what makes LJWC special is its relationship with the outdoors and the neighborhood around it.
Parking in La Jolla Village can be a consideration for load-in — arrive with time to find street parking and make the walk. It’s a small inconvenience for a venue that’s genuinely one of San Diego’s most charming.
