Best Booth Types for This Venue
Set up downstairs near the waterfront. Skip the backdrop entirely and angle the booth toward the floor-to-ceiling windows so the San Diego skyline is visible behind every guest. We've done this 15 times and it never gets old — those photos are instantly recognizable and guests share them immediately. The outdoor patio that sits directly over the bay is also worth considering for cocktail hour setups.
Our Full Guide
Everything we know about Tom Ham's Lighthouse
Tom Ham’s Lighthouse is one of those rare San Diego venues where the setting does so much of the work for you. Built in 1971 on Harbor Island, it’s the only restaurant in the United States with a USCG-operated lighthouse attached — and it sits right on San Diego Bay with unobstructed views of the downtown skyline, Coronado Island, and the Coronado Bridge.
After 15 events here since 2013, our setup is always the same: downstairs, near the waterfront, no backdrop. The floor-to-ceiling windows in the California Room frame the bay so beautifully that any printed backdrop would be a step down. Position the booth so guests are photographed with the skyline behind them and you’ll get some of the most distinctly San Diego photos we’ve ever produced.
The venue has multiple event spaces — the California Room seats up to 230, the Harbor View Room handles more intimate gatherings up to 80, and the outdoor ceremony site over the water is breathtaking for open-air setups. All spaces have reliable power, the coordinator team is experienced and easy to work with, and free parking right at the venue makes load-in painless.
The outdoor patio that extends directly over the bay is particularly special for cocktail hour photo booth activations. Guests who wander out there are already in a great mood from the view, and the photos from that setting are hard to match anywhere else in the city.
If you’re considering Tom Ham’s for a wedding or event, the honest answer is: there are very few venues in San Diego where the view alone justifies the booking. This is one of them.
